About this Vail Workshop piece
This is a 4-hole transverse bamboo flute in D Pentatonic Minor, #2014. The pentatonic scale is great for Japanese, Native American and Blues music (yes, they use the exact same scale!). The 5 note scale is very easy to play. You can also play the in-between notes using half hole and cross fingering techniques. The range is usually an octave and a half, with some added overtone notes.
Smooth & Relaxing Tone. Earth Friendly Instrument
Made using traditional ingredients (Bamboo, Fire & Patience).
Please give a listen to a quick sample of this flute: [ https://soundcloud.com/lucas-william-vail/d-flute-2014 ] I make them better than I play them!
Pictures and audio are of the actual flute that I will ship.
A bit of my process:
1. All of my flutes have been carefully selected from bamboo grown for this very reason.
2. Carefully dried for over a year, then soaked in Pure Tung Oil.
3. The dark color comes from slow and steady heat treating, which removes the moisture content and replaces it with the Tung Oil. This makes for a much harder and more crack resistant flute.
4. Lightly lacquered with a non-toxic resin inside and out. This seals out moisture and allows for easier cleaning. It also improves the tone and balances response.
5. Tied with ultra strong bindings.
Feel free to ask me for any help or advice. I’ve been making flutes for 30 years and consider it an honor to be able to offer these to you. Will ship with a slotted cleaning rod, finger chart and instructions. FREE shipping in USA.
